Citizens' Advice Bureau Hilden

Naturalization

The Bundestag has passed a new Citizenship Act, which still has to go through the legislative process and is therefore expected to come into force in May/June 2024. Until then, the current regulations will apply.

Following the entry into force of the new Citizenship Act, we are providing information here about the changes to the requirements for naturalization as a German citizen. It is not yet possible to make any precise statements on the structure of the change in the law.

We strongly advise against submitting an application prematurely, citing the change in the law. There are no advantages in terms of time. Due to the change in the law, delays in processing all applications must be expected.

We kindly ask you to refrain from telephone inquiries and e-mails regarding the changed legal situation.

All information on how to obtain German citizenship can be found in the service portal of the city of Hilden.
