Sterngang - Remembrance of the Reichspogromnacht

Sterngang - Remembrance of the Reichspogromnacht

51 Stolpersteine commemorate the Hilden victims of National Socialism. Seven people died in the pogrom night of 1938 alone and as a result. November 9, 1938 was thus a violent climax to the anti-Jewish atrocities in Hilden.

In memory of those murdered and in remembrance of this worst period in Hilden's history, the Stumbling Stones Working Group, the Protestant and Catholic parishes, the Education and Science Trade Union and the City of Hilden invite you to a central memorial event in the form of a star walk on November 9.

From 3 p. m., the star walk starts at seven locations in the city. Members of the Stumbling Stones Working Group will read out information about the people and poems, place candles and lay roses at selected Stumbling Stones along the way.

The meeting points are:

  • 3:00 p.m.: Gerresheimer Str. 340 (Dr. Siegmund Sommer, Hendrika Grüter)
  • 3:00 p.m.: Walder Str. 222 (Wilhelm Schmitt)
  • 3:00 p.m.: Grabenstr. 2 (Katharina Gammel)
  • 3:15 p.m.: Pungshausstr. 17 (Karl H., Christine, Gisela Weiss)
  • 3:15 p.m.: Richrather Str. 96 (Hermann Klemens)
  • 3:15 p.m.: Am Jägersteig 7 (Wilhelm Johann Weiler)
  • 3:30 p.m.: Berliner Str. / corner of Marie-Colinet-Str. (Sigmund, Bertha, Erna Herz)

The common destination is the memorial stone in the town park. There, Mayor Claus Pommer and representatives from the council and administration will lay the wreath of the city of Hilden at around 4:45 pm. The wreath-laying ceremony will be accompanied by music from the music school.

The ecumenical service against forgetting entitled "Remembering and commemorating" will take place at 5:30 pm in St. Jacob's Church. All citizens are cordially invited to take part in one or more of the program points.
