Who hasn’t dreamed of traveling through time at least once? While that’s not possible, photographs allow us to look back as far as the 19th century and get a sense of what life was like back then.
The Hilden City Archives is offering a photo memory game about Mittelstraße at its booth. Here, residents can try to guess what today’s streets looked like in the past. We also invite younger visitors to join in the fun: a paper scavenger hunt sends them on a quest for clues along our popular shopping street. A little surprise awaits them once they solve the puzzle.Hilden City Library

The event takes place outside and only in suitable weather conditions, i.e. when there has been no rain for several days. Up-to-date information is available on the homepage or Facebook.Music for the vacation budget
On July 11, 2026, downtown Hilden will once again become a stage for young talent. At the 18th edition of “Musik für die Urlaubskasse,” children and teenagers will showcase their musical talents—whether solo, in a duo, or with a band—and provide top-notch entertainment on Mittelstraße from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Young musicians have the opportunity to supplement their vacation funds with applause and small donations.
Registration is open until July 5 at www.hilden.de/urlaubskasse.
Family Picnic
On Sunday, July 12, the Hilden Citizens’ Festival invites you to a family picnic in the city park. Starting at 11:00 a.m., the lawn will become a gathering place for families, children, and anyone who wants to enjoy music, exercise, and spending time together in the great outdoors.
To kick things off, Kiki and Ina from the music school will lead a fun, interactive activity. Under the motto “Dance fun for young and old in the city park!”, they’ll transform the lawn into a colorful dance party. Children, parents, and anyone else interested are warmly invited to dance together, let the music carry them away, and rock the lawn.
Next up is the hands-on circus. Here, children and families can get involved, try new things, and get a taste of the circus. Whether it’s juggling, balancing, or simple tricks—the hands-on circus is all about fun, physical activity, and shared experiences.
The family picnic combines music, dance, circus acts, and a relaxed festival atmosphere. If you’d like, bring a picnic blanket, make yourself comfortable on the lawn, and enjoy a lively morning in the city park.
City bet
Now it's your turn!
Mayor Claus Pommer has made a bet and is convinced that the residents of Hilden won’t be able to form first the new logo of HILDEN SPORT e.V. and then the logo of the city of Hilden using only people —in a way that’s clearly recognizable and in the correct colors.
Together with our challenge partner, Hilden Sport e.V., you can prove otherwise. To do so, we need about **500 participants**!
Sunday, July 12, 2025, 12:00 p.m.
Nové Město SquareThe challenge? The loser ends up in the ice tub. Since Mayor Claus Pommer is currently injured, his deputies, Peter Groß and Kevin Bucher, are already standing by.
