Kulturrucksack NRW - The pinhole camera
How does photography actually work without a smartphone or modern camera? In this workshop, you will discover one of the most exciting basics of photography: the pinhole camera.
After a brief introduction to the history of photography, you will learn about the principle of the camera obscura. The workshop is aimed at all 10 to 14-year-olds who want to experience photography in a completely different way and try it out for themselves. You will then build your own cameras from simple materials such as cans.
The workshop will take place from 17.08. to 18.08.2026, from 10:00 to 14:00.
A small darkroom is then prepared together. Photographic paper is cut to size, cameras are loaded and then we go outside to take pictures. Finally, you will develop your own pictures and experience step by step how photography used to work and how a picture is created from light and shadow.
This is a free workshop as part of the Kulturrucksack NRW state program.
