At its last meeting on 30.06.2021, the Hilden City Council acknowledged the diverse voluntary activities of its citizens and decided to continue the concept for promoting civic engagement on the part of the City of Hilden.

This concept was adopted by the Hilden City Council on June 28, 2005 in order to promote voluntary and civic commitment. Within this framework, people who have rendered outstanding services to the common good in Hilden are awarded a volunteer pass. As a small token of thanks, this pass entitles the holder to a number of discounts, including when visiting municipal or regional facilities. In addition, a bonus booklet is sent to the pass holders every year, which contains a number of attractive vouchers to make everyday life more enjoyable.

  • The guidelines for awarding the volunteer pass

The prerequisite for the award of the Volunteer Pass is regular and long-term volunteer work.

No remuneration may be received for the activity, only an expense allowance of a maximum of EUR 15/month or EUR 180/year.

The volunteer pass is valid for 2 years and is not transferable.

To select the people who should be awarded the Volunteer Pass, the associations, institutions and other groups - if known - will be contacted in good time and asked to submit up to three suggestions. Irrespective of this, all citizens can nominate at least one person who is particularly committed to volunteering for others.

The volunteer pass is primarily intended to honor people whose work is not regularly recognized and appreciated publicly. Prominent functions on a club board, such as chairmanship, are therefore only awarded an honorary pass by the working group in exceptional cases.

Each proposal should contain a justification of what the special commitment consists of.

If the number of proposals submitted exceeds 100, a selection will be made by the Honorary Pass working group, taking into account the merits presented. The selection is always anonymous.

The working group, which selects both the benefits and the holders of the volunteer pass, is made up of the following members:

    • 1 representative: in the Protestant and Catholic churches (for the church sector)
    • 1 representative:in Workers' Welfare (Social Affairs)
    • 1 representative:in City Sports Association (Sport)
    • 1 full-time employee in the fire department (emergency response)
    • 1 employee: Cultural Office (Culture and Customs)
    • 1 employee from the youth welfare office (children and youth work)
    • 1 employee:in Mayor's office
    • 1 arbitrator (law)

    Volunteer card 2022 2023

In January, the people selected by the Volunteer Pass working group were sent our thank-you in the form of a certificate, the Volunteer Pass and the bonus booklet.

In addition to the Hilden bakeries and flower stores that have been participating for many years, the city library, a specialist bookshop, the Hildorado and Waldbad swimming pool run by the Hilden public utility company, the cultural office, the Neanderthal Museum and the Unterbacher See lake, we have now also been able to include a voucher from Anzeiger24, two offers from the Bergstation, the Fabry Museum, the music school and the Hilden city archives in the bonus booklet.

We would like to thank all participating businesses, companies and organizations for helping to ensure that the selected citizens who volunteer in Hilden receive and enjoy our recognition.

  • The motif of the 2022 - 2023 volunteer card

    Artist: Jennifer Kanzok

She says of her illustration entitled "WE":

"The illustration visualizes the diversity and cohesion of the city of Hilden. Young and old, big and small, healthy and sick come together here and enjoy their lives. The colorful motif symbolizes the multiculturalism of the city and proves that even a colorful bunch can form a harmonious unit. Because a sense of WE is created here. A feeling of togetherness that arises when different individuals pursue the same goal.

In addition to the WE feeling, it was also very important for me to show what else the town of Hilden stands for. It stands for beautiful places of refuge in nature and a history that goes back to the year 985. The rainbow also stands for harmony, wholeness, nature conservation and as a symbol of the connection between heaven and earth. The coat of arms of the city of Hilden is enthroned on it and brings everything together to form a great whole."

    Jennifer Kanzok about Jennifer Kanzok:

Ever since I was a child, I have tried to put my thoughts and opinions on paper in a creative way. I have catalyzed my creativity not only by drawing, but also by making music, writing and cooking. Over the years, I have tried out a lot of things and tried to expand my artistic horizons. Today I work in an advertising agency as a graphic designer, illustrate a lot and have a soft spot for analog photography.
