Prevention
Dear specialists from Hilden,
Prevention work in the area of sexualized violence has a long tradition in Hilden and works in cooperation with kindergartens and schools for children and young people. Children should be supported in taking their feelings seriously, strengthening their self-confidence and becoming aware of their right to help.
And we also advise you as the responsible professionals - in person, by telephone or online - to support you with questions, concerns and challenges relating to the protection and development of children in your institution!
What can we help you with?
Here are some examples of the topics and questions we can help with:
- How can we strengthen children's self-confidence and self-awareness?
- What do children need for age-appropriate sex education and how can they be helped to talk openly about sexuality?
- How can we help children to understand their own feelings and trust their instincts when someone else's behavior towards them feels wrong or threatening?
- How can we encourage them to open up if their boundaries are not taken seriously and/or if they have already been affected by sexualized assaults?
- What help and education do children need with regard to safe use of the Internet or chatting?
- How can you support children and young people who have experienced sexualized violence in their everyday lives?
Who can take advantage of our support?
We advise professionals from daycare centers, schools and youth facilities in Hilden. If you have a question or are planning a prevention project in your school or daycare center, please contact us.
Project work in schools and daycare centers
Children and young people who are affected by sexualized violence cannot protect themselves alone. They need adult contact persons who know how perpetrators act, what signals children and young people send out and what help is available. But we can encourage children to take their feelings seriously, talk about their situation and get help.
With this aim in mind, the prevention unit offers specialized projects for the children in your institution. With a playful, child-oriented approach and together with you as a pedagogical specialist, we encourage the children in the project lessons:
- to take their feelings and bodily sensations seriously
- Understanding sexual sensations and learning to distinguish when touch feels good and when it feels threatening or strange
- realize that only they can decide who touches them and what happens to their body
- and to be aware of their right to help if someone crosses their boundaries
- to dare to talk about beautiful, but also violent, abusive experiences
