Basic information
Since the hot and dry summers of 2018 and 2019 at the latest, it has become clear that the effects of climate change are also being felt in Germany. Cities like Hilden, with their dense urban development, are particularly susceptible to overheating, prolonged periods of heat and an increase in extremely hot days. Such conditions promote the so-called heat island effect, which leads to increased heating, particularly in urban areas, and increases the number of tropical nights. These developments not only have a negative impact on the environment and the economy, but also affect the quality of life and pose a serious health risk - especially for older people, those with chronic illnesses and ultimately for the entire urban population.
